Newbie climbing/rapelling/canyoneering trip to Moab

Hey all I would appreciate some help/feedback. Taking a trip this summer to Moab, looking forward to some great hikes and beautiful views. I’d love to incorporate some climbing and/or canyoneering if possible.

My experience with climbing is top rope only. I have been on a few guided canyoneering trips, but never set my own anchors. Are there any top rope routes in or around Arches National Park?

Similarly, are there any locations easy to access for rappelling? I noticed U Turn canyon as an option. Do the rappels have anchors preset on the bolts or would I need to bring webbing and carabiners for anchors?

Any other suggestions or feedback would be appreciated.

I don’t know of any top rope options around Moab you don’t need to lead first. There are some slabs along the Potash road, but reaching the top requires some 4th class scrambling to reach the anchors that I wouldn’t recommend to beginners.

Most of the well known canyons around Moab will have anchors in some fashion in place, but you would still need to be able to evaluate the anchor for safety and create a new anchor if the existing anchor was missing/damaged/etc… I wouldn’t recommend anyone do canyons without being able to create their own anchors and evaluate existing anchors.

As a fallback, getting a permit to explore and scramble around in the Fiery Furnace is, I think, a good non-technical option.

I second heading into the Fiery Furnace. It will scratch your itch for a canyon experience and enough adventure scrambling to give you a fun climbing feeling if you climb up on the fins.
