Planning a road trip from Denver to Moab with my wife and 7 year old granddaughter. Here’s what I have figured out, planned so far.
- Rent a Class B RV - Cruise America is looking good - good rates, looks like good vehicles with separate toilet and shower; big fridge, microwave, etc.
- Head to the Utah Welcome Center near Thompson Springs ghost town, park overnight.
- Get up and turn down Hwy 128 in the morning and start checking all the BLM campgrounds along the CO River, see 4 below, maybe start at Moab and go NW. There are 12 campgrounds between Dewey and Moab, 8 of which can accommodate an RV up to least 24’. Check out times are 11am or 12pm so we’ll start probably around 10am, looking for early departures.
- Seems like this area is good for CO River fun obviously but also reasonably or acceptably close enough to Moab for supplies, “city stuff”, and the two National Parks. Now that I think about this, it may be smarter to start at Moab and go North (Northwest) up 128 so that if and when we find something it’ll be as close to Moab as possible.
- Worst case maybe ending up at one of the campgrounds at Canyon Rims Recreation Area
Planned activities:
- Rafting 1/2 or full day with
- Dinosaur Tracks hikes
- E-Biking
- Stargazing/Night astronomy at the park(s)
- SUP, Kayak, on the CO River if it’s not too cold
- Ranger led programs at the parks
- Hiking!!!
