Hello. I don’t want to take up any unnecessary time of yours, and will make this as short as possible. It’s in regards to an unexplained incident that occured Thursday November 19th 2020 that started at exactly 2:32pm, and ended at 2:46pm, when my pops had brought me to see the Rainbow Basin in Barstow California for the first time. No clouds, blue sky, and it was pretty hot. We had just exited the truck and had just begin walking. Our EXACT LOCATION was
35°01’50"N 117°02’19"W
when all of the sudden, a really really massive thundering loud boom began to roar, hitting us from our north direction. I want to emphasize that even though this sound appeared to have reached our location from generally what can be described as from the north, it’s deep and violent sound seemed to envelope us from 360 degrees. My very first immediate thought was, “what the f***?! Is some undiscovered dormant volcano suddenly erupting?!!!” Pops, who was standing just a few feet away from me was also extremely alarmed by this sudden loud roaring sound, ESPECIALLY after it failed to seize after the first 10 seconds. We both expected for a sound of this magnitude to be brief, as it doesn’t make sense of what could resume such a loud and powerful boom to perpetually continue for as long as this was. After about the first 20 - 30 seconds or so, and having to put in effort to be heard over this sound, I said to him, “what the f*** is that?!” And with a concerned look on his face he said “shhh, hold on”. I told him “should we run back to the truck?!” He replied “No just hold on”. Like 3 minutes since this sound first started, and it has yet to ease up or decrease in volume in any way. I told pops, “it doesn’t sound like it’s coming from the sky does it?” He said “I don’t think so, and it’s been too long for it to be a Sonic boom.” This strange apocalyptic roar was now going on 7 min or so and something was now becoming evident. This sound seem to be, at an extremely slow rate of speed, began to decrease in volume, and as it did, the loud deep bass sound never changed it’s pitch in any way, it’s pitch (which was a deep low bass thundering sound pitch) seemed to stay sounding the same. Think of a stereo system playing through it’s speakers, and the volume is controlled by turning a knob, and the knob was turning it’s volume down at the slowest possible rate that is physically possible, just crawling very slowly inch by inch until it’s off. As this was happening, it was also apparent that what seemed to originate from generally a northerly direction, seemed to have shifted to the westerly direction. And even though it changed it’s direction, it never gave the impression that it was necessarily “moving away from us” to the west, but rather it was just sloooooowwwwly decreasing it’s volume as slowly as possible. This event was alarming, bizarre, and extremely puzzling. I tried to search for anything that can relate or explain what this may have been. In all, this loud continuous roar lasted approximately 13 min or so. I took a few pictures before it occured and the last pictures timestamp showed 2:32pm, and filmed a quick video after where I briefly mention what had just occured, and the timestamp on that shows 2:46pm. My phone was already dying when this took place, and I initially thought it had already died after my last photos, which is why I never considered to try to capture a recording, that and also I thought this sound would have siezed rather quickly, never expecting it to last anywhere near as long as it did. Sonic booms, explosions, military artillery fire, underground collapsing mine shafts, collapsing caves, underground water sources, sky quakes, fog horns, etc… I don’t think any of these can adequately and properly explain what we heard that afternoon. I’m also aware of the various videos that was making it’s round on the internet, being labled as “sky trumpets” and/or of loud, sometimes mechanical mystery sounds seemingly coming from the sky, and assuming they’re even genuine claims of what’s being presented, none of those resembled with what occured with me and my dad. And my apologies for not reporting this sooner. (5 yrs later) I wasn’t sure who or what or where I would be able to ask anyone with enough interest or knowledge in such a location being this is a somewhat important geological area of a scientific degree, but it would be much appreciated if some explanations or any feedback of any kind can be offered, and I also hope this Information can possibly be of any important use to any individuals who’s time and efforts are dedicated to studying, surveying, and/or monitoring the Rainbow Basin. Thank you for your time and I hope to hear back as soon as possible. Thank you.
