Yankee Doodle Incident 1/19/26

Though it is a mild winter, it is still winter. A group was rescued from Yankee Doodle due to cold:

Be very careful if venturing out into canyons this time of year, short days, cold temperatures and the possibility of water can be unforgiving.

I don’t totally get it. People got cold but not hypothermic (didn’t need an ambulance after being rescued) and needed to be helicopter lifted out of the canyon? Assuming they weren’t stuck, hiking out would have fixed the cold problem. Maybe they didn’t know what they were doing and didn’t know where to exit the canyon?
